Basketball News & Notes for 2018-19 Season

The 2018-19 basketball season will be starting in about eight weeks. We will again be using the Got Officials system for scheduling. All officials should have accessed Got Officials at http://www.gotofficials.com to block out their closed dates because scheduling is in progress. I know many officials haven’t done this yet because I am getting too many turn backs.
Please verify your User Information; you can change your password, update your contact information and you must add a picture. If you can’t take a selfie, have a friend take a picture for you. A passport size/style/type is preferred. Also upload your picture to the MSHSL web site.

The date of our meeting will be Tuesday November 13 at 6:00 at the Brooklyn Park Community Center located at 5600 –85th Ave. North in Brooklyn Park.
Shawn Velleck will be at our meeting with the new shirt that we want everyone to have. He also will be bringing other items with him. If you need anything else, you might call him to bring these articles with him. Come early to purchase these items because he will be leaving as soon as we start the regular meeting.
We will need officials for Girls varsity scrimmages at Hopkins High School on Nov 17 starting at 9:00, Wayzata on Nov 24 at 9:00 and Eden Prairie on Nov 24 at 9:00. Hopkins will have 6 courts, Wayzata 5 and Eden Prairie will have 4 courts using two and three person crews.
We will have the times and schools listed in Got Officials. We will have them listed in self assign. If you can work any of these scrimmages, sign up for them or call Rick at 651-252-8197 or email at email@example.com
Because of the length of theses scrimmages, we are asking that you only work an hour and a half. This means we will need at least 90 officials and 10 observers. Because of the need for so many officials, I expect to see many of our veterans helping out. If we don’t get the needed amount of officials, you might be asked to do a double shift.
Craig Laird will be our clinician for basketball this year with the help of Steve Makowske and Eric Gray. I would also like to thank Steve Makowske for all the hours he puts in looking at our officials and helping Craig with our training sessions.
We are planning to have a clinic again this year on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Brooklyn Center Youth Rec Center. The starting time is 12:30pm (this time was changed due to the new start time for the Vikings/Bears game).
This is the same building that we used last year located at the east end of the Brooklyn Center High School parking lot. It will be mandatory for all of our officials that have been with us for three years or less. I am always amazed when I don’t see the new people that have just joined “Gopher” not attending this session.
To fulfill the MSHSL requirement of attending a clinic every three years you must spend three hours at this clinic and attendance is necessary if you want to be considered for playoff games.
Any roster changes with phone numbers home, work or cell, addresses or e-mail addresses should be given to John Monson at firstname.lastname@example.org
or to Bozo by phone or e-mail before the meeting, so we can update our roster and have a current list available at the time of our meeting..THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Also, do not forget that you are responsible to update your contact information on Got Officials!
Mandatory MSHSL Rules Interpretation Meeting/Test.
The test for basketball is available on-line only starting on November 5 and your test must be completed by November 20.
Basketball Official’s Training Clinics
These clinics are very good and I recommend that all of our newer officials attend one of these. All officials must attend one of these once every three years. Clinics are from 5:30 until 9:30 and you should pre-register for these clinics.
Concussion Management Training
All officials must have received initial online training-- and online renewal training at least once every three calendar years thereafter -- before they will be assigned any games. If you haven’t taken this training session, do it right away because I will be checking all of our officials to make sure this is done.
Basketball dues are $85. They must be paid to "Gopher" by December 1, 2018.
If we do not receive it by then you will be assessed a $15.00 penalty for a total of $100, which must be received by Dec. 15, 2018. Mail them to Darrell Wincek, 6307 – 61st Ave No. Crystal, MN 55428.
If you don't work a full schedule, credit will be given for the following year or money returned on a prorated basis. Assignments will not be given to anyone who owes dues from previous seasons.

My name is Rick DeGardner and I have been appointed to be the basketball assignor for Gopher State Officials for the 2018-19 season. While there are many officials that I have become familiar with due to assigning softball/baseball for Gopher State since 2009, it’s imperative that every official expecting to receive assignments through Gopher State this upcoming basketball season complete and return the fillable Basketball Officials Information Form.
Since Bozo and I anticipate starting the assigning process by the end of August, it would be great if these forms could be returned to me by August 15, 2018. Completed forms can be returned to email@example.com (make sure to put your name in the subject line) or sent via US mail to the address listed on the bottom of the form.
